Youth Ministry Commission
Provides support for the Coordinator of Youth Ministry, the Leadership Team, and adult volunteers involved in youth ministry. Develop long range planning, budgeting, and program assessment, ensuring that the changing needs of young people are being met. Advocate for young people and their responsible participation in the life of the Catholic Faith Community. Attend quarterly meetings.

Youth Ministry Leadership Team
Open to anyone in 10th grade through adulthood. Responsible for the planning, implementation and evaluation of the youth ministry program. Will also foster the involvement of young people in the life of the St. Stephen, Martyr, including serving on various committees and being involved in activities. Monthly planning meetings and occasional training sessions. Must enjoy this crazy age and be willing to do equally crazy (but safe!) things with them. We need energetic role models!
Commitment: One year ~ 10 hours per month

Newsletter / Bulletin Editor
Responsible for overseeing the process of developing the youth ministry newsletter. The newsletter includes practical information on upcoming events, permission slips, and a three-month calendar. The newsletter also includes articles on topics of interest to young people; information on youth issues and concerns; articles on faith issues and topics; and features on youth ministry accomplishments.
Commitment: one year

Fundraising
The coordinator of fundraising selects, coordinates, and implements various fundraising events to benefit parish youth ministry. This person works in conjunction with the Youth Ministry Commission and the Youth Ministry Leadership Team. This position raises money for the youth ministry budget, reducing the cost of activities for our young people.
Commitment: one year

HS Mentors (for MS youth)
HS students active in Youth Ministry can serve as mentors /“HS buddies” to one or more Middle school students. Would attend MS functions on a fairly regular basis with assigned student(s) and serve as a mentor, positive role model, and friend.

Bible Study Leaders
Lead one time discussions with HS students using provided materials. Bible study will be offered several times throughout the school year – each meeting would not be dependent upon attending prior discussions. Dates will be set once adults are in place.

Prayer Group Leaders
Introduce students to the different forms of prayer (guided meditation, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, Taize style prayer, rosary, intercessory prayer, petitions, thanksgiving, etc. by leading a brief prayer group. Materials will be provided. Prayer groups will be offered several times throughout the school year and each meeting would not be dependent upon attending prior meetings. Dates will be set once adults are in place.

Catholic Heart Work Camp Chaperones
One week each summer we travel to a different city along the east coast and work with CHWC on housing restoration and social outreach projects. We stay in a church or school with about 300 other HS teens and adults. The evenings are filled with staff testimonies, skits, prayer, energetic music and the sacraments….oh, and sleep! Bus transportation is provided. Date to be announced.
Commitment: One time event

Diocesan Youth Conference
Weekend long event for rising 9th through graduating 12th graders during the summer. You will have the opportunity on Saturday to attend breakout sessions pertinent to adults. Youth will attend their own breakout sessions. Celebrate Mass and reconciliation with teens and adults from all 150 parishes found in our diocese. Fun and energetic activities are held on Friday and Saturday night. Time commitment would be from Friday early afternoon to Sunday early afternoon. This year’s conference (July 23-25, 2010) will be held in Richmond at the Convention Center and lodging is at the Hilton Garden Inn. Bus transportation is provided.
Commitment: One time event

Holy COWs
(Catholics Out Working) The Holy COWs not only accepts work requests from parishioners but we also work at soup kitchens, at food banks, NEST and have an annual fall Rake and Run Project. We need one adult to coordinate one project each month from September to June and we will need at least 6 adults to chaperone each month’s activity.
Requires Virtus Training and Background Check for ages 18+
HS Laser Quest Lock In
Attend a lock-in with the high schoolers at Laser Quest in Virginia Beach. Play laser tag games/missions all night long or “rest” in one of the party rooms! This is a regional/LPA gathering with all the Catholic Churches in Chesapeake, Suffolk and Franklin. Usually a Friday night in January 11 pm – 6 am.
Commitment: One time event

Birthday Card Ministry
Send birthday postcards to the youth in our parish on behalf of youth ministry. Approximately 40-50 birthdays per month. Names, addresses, postcards and postage are supplied.

Table Worker after Masses
Available to help man the Youth Ministry table after a particular Mass. Position would include taking registrations for an event, selling sweatshirts, distributing information, etc. May also include setting up or taking down the table and supplies. 2 Adults are needed for after each Mass, on an as needed basis.
Confirmation Advisory Team
Provide input and steering toward making a model confirmation program. We would meet monthly or every other month – requires a commitment from July through March.

Confirmation Class Team
Confirmed practicing and active Catholics may serve as members of the Confirmation class team. You could serve as a small group facilitator, peer / adult mentor, assist in set up, clean up and/or teaching the Confirmation classes. Attend prep meetings and any subcommittee meetings. Attend the Rite of Welcome (Mass) in November and the Confirmation Mass in April/May for Confirmation students.
Commitment: approximately 5 hours per month – July through April/May.

The CANDII Program was organized to improve the quality of life for children living with HIV/AIDS.
